Happy New Year.

Well, we made it guys!  We officially survived The Great Apocalypse Of 2012 and now we have a whole new year (and, probably, another apocalypse threat) to look forward to ^_^

In the months running up to the new year, I set myself a few little goals to accomplish, to keep me motivated before I kicked off 2013 with a sparkly new list of things I'd like to do.  And I actually did it -happy dance-

My first goal was to start (and finish) a project.  I hereby present to you my completed linen-stitch scarf!

Ooh!  Ahh!
Admittedly, it took -forever- because linen-stitch is a little fiddly.  Sure, it's time-consuming and yes, I made a few mistakes which meant unstitching several rows at a time and wanting to pull my hair out -but- I made it all the way to the end and made a very warm, very stiff scarf.  While the wool itself is quite soft, the construct of the stitch means the scarf isn't overly flexible; I thought it was going to be really uncomfortable to wear but, actually, it means that when it's super cold and windy, I can hide my face and keep warm without my scarf slipping all over the place!  Good times ^_^

Purl above, knit below!
And another thing I like is that while the knit side of the scarf is cute and woven, the purl side of the scarf looks pretty neat too!  Result!

I really enjoy sitting and knitting (ooh, rhymed!), I find it really relaxes me, especially after a long day at work.  It's so nice to take it easy for an hour or so, just knitting away and watching something grow ^_^ Even if I am only knitting a ton of scarves right now.  But let's face it, you can never have too many scarves, right?  Right?

So many scarves, so little time!
My second goal was to create a design I'm proud of and I'm proud to say that I did!  It's not loaded onto my computer yet but once it is, I'd love to share it with you and get some feedback on it.  I think you'll find it a real hoot (totally a clue in there, cleverly disguised)

My third and fourth goals were to spend more time with my friends and less time stressing about work; I managed to meet up with a good friend of mine a couple of times (she lives quite far away now so it's not so easy to see her) and I made a conscious effort to leave work -at- work.  As a result, I feel much more social and much less worked up.  And it's great ^_^

My colleague told me that, in her culture (she's originally from Nepal), the first day of the year is symbolic of how the rest of the year is going to be for you.  With that in mind, I'm going to spend the rest of my day reading a good book, doing a little knitting (you'd never have guessed that one, right?) and spending time with the people I care about.

And making some memories to write down in my awesome new five-year journal (thanks Mum and Dad!) I can't wait to start jotting down in it and be able to look back on five years, all documented in one place ^_^

I hope you're all having a wonderful day, thank you so much for stopping by!

Happy New Year!

xoxo

  1. That's so crazy about the notebook...my husband and I are doing that too! I didn't know there was an actual book for it, thought!

The scarf looks great! I sadly didn't do much knitting this year but you've inspired me to start it up again.

    Happy New Year!
